Kicking Off School Year with Heart

Virginia Social Services Staff Volunteer at Back to School Event

Hundreds of Richmond Public Schools (RPS) students received backpacks packed with school supplies, personal care packs and healthy snacks at at large-scale Back to School Event sponsored by the RPS Homeless Education Program. Staff from the Virginia Department of Social Service (VDSS) Home Office and several Richmond area AmeriCorps members were on hand to help out by unloading the truckloads of supplies, organizing the items and helping families on the day of the event. VDSS staff also donated more than 10 boxes of school supplies for the effort.
