Thanks to funding from the Virginia Service Foundation, several nonprofits and agencies throughout Virginia were able to organize impactful service projects in their communities for 9/11 Day and Day to Serve. In Southwest Virginia, Appalachian Community Action Agency partnered with Meals of Love for a food drive which collected nearly 850 pounds of food and personal care items and more than $500 in monetary donations. These donations will help Meals of Love serve more than 1,600 individuals a hot meal, once a week for the next six months!
The grants also enabled Tazewell County to erect a memorial honoring fallen law enforcement officers, including those who died on 9/11. See photos from these projects and from the other grantees. The Virginia Service Foundation promotes volunteer involvement, civic engagement, and citizen participation in the programs to serve the needs of Virginia and its communities. Mini Grants will be offered for the MLK Day of Service (January 16) beginning November 1. Stay tuned!
