Carroll County Lift Up AmeriCorps members partnered with the staff of English Language Learners (ELL) to host the 10th annual Multi-Cultural Festival on March 9, 2017, at Oakland Elementary School.  Approximately 250 people attended the event at which the ELL students presented a play in English and in Spanish and performed dances from Ireland and Mexico to the delight of the audience.  AmeriCorps members set up and manned stations representing nine difference countries, alongside displays offering family resources from five human services agencies set. The 30 members prepared colorful displays with craft activities, food samples, and games representing the cultures from around the world.  Children played games, created masks and other decorations, and tasted sweet treats representative of the different countries.  After the game/craft session, the families were served a variety of traditional foods from different Hispanic countries. This event was also made possible by 61 volunteers contributing 218 hours of service.
