CNCS is now accepting nominations for the third annual Excellence in AmeriCorps Programming and Service Awards, a special opportunity to spotlight extraordinary programs and AmeriCorps members. The awards will be presented in honor of Iowa’s Senator Thomas R. Harkin, a long-time and tireless advocate for national service. During his 40 years of service as a member of the United States House of Representatives and Senate, Senator Harkin exemplified the highest level of dedication to public service and to our nation.
The awards will be presented in four categories:
1. Best new program addressing a critical priority (launched in or after September 2015);
2. Most significant enhancement to an existing program using AmeriCorps resources;
3. Member with disability (ies) who significantly contributed to increasing the participation of other individuals with disabilities in national service (as AmeriCorps members, volunteers, or partners); and
4. Most compelling member experience in either building an ethic of civic responsibility or having positive change in his/her life.
Eligible nominees will include programs and members from all AmeriCorps programs, including Tribal Programs funded by AmeriCorps, AmeriCorps State, AmeriCorps National, AmeriCorps NCCC, and AmeriCorps VISTA.
Nominations are due on Friday, July 14, 2017, and awards will be presented at the 2017 AmeriCorps State and National Symposium in Arlington, VA on September 13. CNCS will invite the award recipients to attend the event along with a guest. Nominations must be submitted via www.challenge.gov.
