One major partnership for Day to Serve is with AARP of Virginia. AARP is organizing a major hunger relief effort in five different parts of Virginia during the month of September, which has been designated as “Hunger Action Month.” Regional Day to Serve leaders are working to recruit volunteers to help AARP execute their food drive efforts. The first of these projects will be to feed thousands on the National Mall in Washington, DC, on September 9 and 10. AARP will use its extensive statewide organization to publicize and encourage its large membership to support the multiple food collection projects which Day to Serve groups will be setting up in several of the grocery chain stores throughout the state from September 9 to October 10.
