Virginia's AmeriCorps members kicked off their formal year of service with a two-day training event and opening day ceremony September 27-28, at the Virginia Crossings Hotel in Richmond. The "Stand Down for Safety and Wellness" training featured experts in the fields of safety, preparedness and wellness. Members attended workshops on topics like CPR Training, Emergency Preparedness, Response to Active Shooters, and Bullying Prevention.
On September 27th, more than 200 members took the AmeriCorps pledge together to "get things done for America." New members were inspired by stories from AmeriCorps Alums and received support from the Governor's Advisory Board on Service and Volunteerism, who participated in the swearing in ceremony.
