The Virginia Service Commission (VSC) released a special targeted AmeriCorps Request for Applications focusing exclusively on activities related to programs providing direct services in their communities addressing the Virginia priority of Volunteer Recruitment and Utilization, AND address one of the following two funding priorities: Education and Economic Opportunity. Applicants pursuing education-related AmeriCorps programming were required to replicate or expand evidence-based out-of-school time models for children and youth through the 12th grade. Applicants pursuing economic opportunity-related AmeriCorps programming were required to replicate or expand workforce development models that would result in individuals receiving industry recognized certifications in high-demand fields and/or placement in high demand jobs. VSC also considered programming that provided more basic job skills training, but a strong preference (reflected in the review process) was for industry recognized certifications and/or employment in high demand jobs.
