Stories of Service: Cydny Neville

Congratulations to Cyndy Neville of Prince William County — winner of the 2017 Virginia Governor’s Volunteerism and Community Service Award for Outstanding Adult Volunteer! Full-time teacher Cydny Neville’s commitment to students, their families, and her community goes way beyond the classroom. Cydny serves a minimum of 20 hours per week organizing community outreach across Prince William County and Northern Virginia. Her passion for the Prince William community led her to help individuals who are trying to start new businesses. Cyndy has assisted more than 100 small business owners with professional development training and has helped them secure business licenses by guiding them through their paperwork. Also, because of her efforts more than 1,000 youth have been able to celebrate their birthdays thanks to her Annual Birthday Bag Drive. Cydny collected donations from local businesses and organizations for the birthday bags, and then leveraged those donations by creating a giving competition among the civic organizations. In addition to her community service work and teaching full-time she has served with Friends of Montclair Community Library, Virginia Association of Teachers of English, the Prince William NAACP, and on the Inaugural Prince William County “Juneteenth Committee.” Cydny is truly a woman with a huge heart who firmly believes in working for a purpose — uplifting, inspiring and educating those in he community!
