Stories of Service: Mt. Gilead Full Gospel International Ministries

Congratulations to Mt. Gileao Full Gospel International Ministries of Chesterfield — winner of the 2017 Virginia Governor’s Volunteerism and Community Service Awards for Outstanding Faith-Based Organization! With more than 5,000 members and a volunteer force of more than 800, Mt. Gilead Full Gospel International Ministries is one of the fastest growing congregations in the Richmond area. For the past 20 years, senior pastor Bishop Daniel Roberson, Jr., and his dynamic style of preaching, teaching and motivating has attracted a membership of service-minded individuals with a passion for outreach ministries. Over the past two years, Mt. Gilead has worked to assist people experiencing hunger by nearly 140,000 meals through FeedMore and through the church’s mobile food cart, “the Net.” Fighting homelessness is also a huge priority for Mt. Gilead. Throughout the year they partner with Virginia Supportive Housing to help provide permanent housing and supportive services. Last year, a team of eight members volunteered more than 100 hours of service coordinating monthly sessions and providing meals and activities. Mt. Gilead also supports area students by working closely with Richmond Public Schools providing essential supplies and resources. Additionally, members and volunteers have worked with Dominion’s Energy Share Program to anonymously pay $6,000 in electric bills for 14 families who were at risk of disconnection during the holidays. These efforts show that the leadership, members, and volunteers have made a strong commitment to help with the most vulnerable residents of Metro Richmond. They are truly a spiritual anchor within the community with one uniting goal — to love and serve people.
