Congratulations to Pepicelli’s Pizza of Ashland — winner of the 2017 Virginia Governor’s Volunteerism and Community Service Award for Outstanding Small Business! For residents in the Town of Ashland and Beaverdam, there’s no such thing as a special event or community outreach effort without Pepicelli’s Pizza. Lisa and Tom Checkosky’s restaurant is not only the best place to go in town for a slice, it is an outstanding example of giving back to the community. The list of organizations and causes supported by Pepicelli’s goes on and on – from the Hanover Humane Society to the Ashland Police Foundation. Pepicelli’s is dedicated to serving the needs of the community with financial contributions, donations of pizza at events, and with their time. The Checkosky’s have provided food and sponsorship for a nonprofit assisting families with medically fragile children, hosted countless school spirit nights at the restaurant, and opened their doors to nonprofit groups to use their warming ovens for their fundraisers. They have even made unique contributions such as donating more than 1,000 eggs to local churches and food banks. The Checkoskys’ warm hearts and willingness to share what they have to help plan and promote events makes this local business a positive part of their community — recently honored as a recipient of the Hanover County Spirit of Volunteerism Award. Lisa and Tom live out their belief that businesses serve a vital role in community life. They truly embrace their role, not as just a fantastic place to eat, as an integral part of the community as well. Pepicelli’s Pizza makes Hanover County a better place to live!
