Happy #WomensHistoryMonth! Meet Laritza Pantoja, @AmeriCorps member and Youth Specialist for @CasaforAll Virginia! Laritza was a preofessor in Cuba, but when she moved to the U.S. her teaching creditials were not transferable. She applied to be a member of AmeriCorps because she wanted to make a direct impact on youth. Casa Virgina's Mi Espacio program recently started 2 school partnership. Through her academia background, Laritza was able to get students to engage in her presentation!

#AmeriCorps not only makes an impact on communites through service, but also transforms the lives of so many individuals who serve with us. Save the date for #AmeriCorpsWeek, March 12-18. We will be sharing stories from our community members whose lives have been changed by service!

AmeriCorps announced that more than $15 million in

AmeriCorps announced that more than $15 million in federal funding to support new projects in the VISTA program across more than 34 states and territories. The investment will support more than 1,000 new AmeriCorps members who will expand capacity in organizations that alleviate poverty and build economic opportunity through community-driven efforts across the country.

AmeriCorps members will help organizations advance projects that support student success, reduce homelessness, address food security, expand job opportunities, improve health services, expand access to technology and increase economic opportunities for families with low income across the country.

#ICYMI: AmeriCorps deployed teams to support recovery efforts on Monday, January 23rd, in New Mexico in response ton President Biden's major disaster declaration after the Hermits Peak Calf Canyon Fire, the largest wildfire in state history.Located in Santa Fe National Forest, the wildfire reached full containment in late August 2022. Heavy rain and thunderstorms followed, which lead to flash flood warnings in multiple counties across North Central and Northeastern New Mexico. The historic fire, and subsequent flooding, devastated communities and tribal nations.

Happy #BlackHistoryMonth! We have the honor of sharing some of our favorite Black-led organizations, one being @prettypurposed. Founded in 2014 by Bianca Myrick, Pretty Purposed inspires communities to empower young women and girls through school and community based programs that center health and wellness, social-emotional development, and leadership skills.

We love seeing members from different programs com

We love seeing members from different programs come together!! Two of our statewide AmeriCorps programs, the @virginiacollegeadvisingcorps and @vastateparks came together for a service day. That’s what we call uniting in service!! @americorps makes a difference!

Did you have someone you looked up to when you were in school?

AmeriCorps members serve across Virginia as tutors, mentors, college advisors, and more. Often, these members are providing services and opportunities that otherwise would not exist. More students get more support and improve their academic skills as a result of time spent with AmeriCorps members. Sharisse served with the Virginia Reading Corps and shares: "“I think the greatest thing that we stand to do is that one on one time…that allows the child to break down those things that might be barriers for them learning." We're grateful for all the ways members serve at over 100 schools, afterschool programs, and more.
