More than 2.2 million Virginians volunteer each year, about 34% of the Commonwealth!! This means over 231 million hours of service happen in communities each year. Volunteers make our lives better through increasing access to healthy food, building and maintaining parks and green spaces, spending time tutoring and mentoring--just to illustrate some of their impact! All together, this creates more than $5.5 billion in estimated economic impact.

Virginia Awards

Virginia Governor's Volunteerism and Community Service Awards: These awards annually recognize the significant contributions of Virginia citizens to the life and welfare of the Commonwealth and its people. One award is presented in each of 10 categories. These outstanding award winners represent the millions of generous Virginians who offer their time and talents to others each year.  The nomination period for the 2022 Virginia Governor's Volunteerism and Community Service Awards has closed, please stay tuned for award announcements in September! National Service Awards: AmeriCorps and AmeriCorps Seniors members serving in Virginia who have performed outstanding service to their communities are honored annually through this recognition program. Honorees this year were celebrated during AmeriCorps Week 2022. Read about the 2022 honorees or watch the 2022 Awards Presentation Video.

Presidential Volunteer Service Award: The President’s Volunteer Service Award is an opportunity to honor your most outstanding volunteers and recognize the impact they make. Led by AmeriCorps and managed in partnership with Points of Light, this program allows Certifying Organizations to recognize their most exceptional volunteers. Visit their website to learn more about the award, and how to nominate individuals or certify volunteer service.

Points of Light Inspiration Honor Roll: The Inspiration Honor Roll celebrates individuals who are engaging with their community through one or more elements of Points of Light’s Civic Circle framework, demonstrating that every action, no matter how small, can make a difference. Individuals recognized on the Inspiration Honor Roll will have their photo and story shared on the Points of Light website. Points of Light recognizes that doing good comes in many forms. The Points of Light Civic Circle shows that civic engagement represents your power to lead, lend support and take action for causes you care about in many ways. Nominate someone and celebrate them! Nomination period is open until August 31, 2022.
